How To Clean Your Stinky, Mildew Towels

If you are anything like me, you start off every morning in a rush due to oversleeping.
This means frantically running to the shower, rushing through your morning routine, and leaving a pile of destruction behind you, including your wet towel on your bathroom floor.
( I am getting better at pacing myself and cleaning up after myself, I am , really!)

Even if you are nothing like me, hang up your towel to dry properly, and wash it in your pristine machine, your towels can still end up smelling, now matter how pristine it is!
Smelling that sour scent in towels is truly one of my biggest pet peeves and it grosses me out.
So this is a fabulous trick to know.

All you need is Vinegar and baking soda to fix this mess.

Wash your towels in hot water and a cup of vinegar, then run a second time with a half cup of baking soda. This will strip your towels from all of that residue and mildew smell, and will actually leave them feeling fluffy and smelling fresh.

*** Do not add laundry detergent to either wash. Just once with vinegar and once with baking soda.
*** This trick also works well with wet bathing suits that were left to dry.

Have fun with fresh smelling, mildew free towels!!!

  1. With a front loading washing machine, do you put the vinegar in the bleach dispenser or the detergent dispenser? Do you put the baking soda in the wash tub with the clothing? thanks :)

  2. You put the vinegar in the detergent dispenser on the first washing cycle. You put the bakingsoda in the detergent dispenser on the second washing cycle.

  3. why cant you put the vinegar and baking soda together in one cycle, this seems like a waste?

    1. You remember making a volcano in school?--the chemical reaction they made was using baking soda and vinegar together--it "explodes", meaning it fizzes up crazily and overflows. You'd have to clean up everything that spilled out of your washing machine. :)

    2. The vinegar goes in the dispenser, the baking soda goes in the washer - just dump it on top of the towels. I never put powder in my front loader's dispensers.

  4. Well this was a helpful ideal....and I did it and it worked....

BUT sometimes you just need to go back to the basic....I purchased a laundry detergent from Walmart that is biograde....they have no phosphate in it which cause the odor in the clothes ....and now my towels husband work clothes etc ....are very clean it has no stinky odor , fluffy and soft ....lol....and its cheaper than all these fancy detergent s and use less ....
